Types of Gold Bangle

Solid Round Bangles

Solid Round Bangles

A plain round bangle is a closed circle of solid gold that you slip over your hand. With no clasp or hinge, there is nothing to break, which is why a simple round bangle is the style people tend to wear for decades. They come in different widths and in D-shaped profiles, which are flat on the inside so they sit comfortably against the wrist.

Twisted, patterned and fancy bangles

Twisted, patterned and fancy bangles

Twisted, ball and patterned bangles add texture, and diamond-cut finishes (shown as "D/C" in our product names) add sparkle. Hollow versions look generous for their price but dent more easily than solid ones, so they are best for occasional wear or for stacking with other bangles.

Heart, cross and stone-set bangles

Heart, cross and stone-set bangles

Bangles with a cubic zirconia heart, a double heart or a cross make thoughtful gifts for birthdays, christenings and confirmations.

Baby bangles

Baby bangles

Gold baby bangles are a long-standing tradition in the UK, often given at a christening, a naming day or a first birthday. Expandable baby bangles open out gently as the child grows, so one bangle lasts longer. Torque bangles have open ends that can be eased wider. ID bangles have a small plate that can be engraved with a name or date, and you will also find baby bangles with hearts, teddies, crosses, and the boxing glove and spanner designs traditionally chosen for baby boys.

A note on safety

A note on safety

babies should only wear jewellery while an adult is watching. Take bangles off for sleep, naps and bathtime, and check regularly that nothing has come loose.

How to Find Your Bangle Size

Because a solid bangle has to pass over your hand, the widest part of your hand matters more than your wrist.

  • Bring your thumb across your palm towards your little finger, as if you were putting a bangle on.
  • Wrap a soft tape measure, or a strip of paper, around the widest part of your hand, across the knuckles.
  • Note the measurement and compare it with the bangle details on the product page, or call us and we will help.

The easiest way is to come into the shop and try a few sizes. A bangle should slide over your hand with a little gentle persuasion, but not fall off when you relax your hand.

Stacking Gold Bangles

A stack looks best when the bangles vary in width and texture. Start with one plain round bangle as the anchor, add a twisted or diamond-cut bangle for sparkle, and finish with something fine. Mixing yellow, white and rose gold works well as long as at least two pieces share a colour. If you wear a watch, stack bangles on the other wrist, or keep the stack light, so the watch case doesn't get scratched.

Looking After a Gold Bangle

  • Take bangles off for the gym, gardening and any job where your wrist might knock against something hard.
  • Solid bangles can be polished to remove scratches. Hollow bangles need gentler care because a dent is hard to remove.
  • If a bangle is bent out of shape, don't try to push it back by hand. Bring it in and our jewellery repair workshop will reshape it safely.
  • ID bangles can be engraved, or re-engraved, in our workshop.
